About SFS Membership

The Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) is a premier, but welcoming, international organization of aquatic scientists. The Society is committed to providing numerous tangible and intangible benefits to its members and the greater community. 

Membership is open to anyone, regardless of residence, who is interested in benthic communities and their role in aquatic ecosystems.

Society for Freshwater Science members receive the online subscription of Freshwater Science and may purchase a paper subscription. Members also get access to a bulletin three times per year, an annual Bibliography of Current Benthological Literature, and an occasional Membership Directory.

2023 Membership Rates (Includes online access to the Freshwater Science Journal)

2023 membership will be valid from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.

*Student Members must be currently enrolled with a college or university.
**Developing Country (Regular & Students) must be residents of a developing country as per the World Bank rankings for 2022.

***Emeritus Members must meet the following two criteria:

  1. 65+ years of age (born in or before 1956)
  2. have a total of 25+ years of SFS membership
  Printed Freshwater Science subscriptions are $80.00 and require current SFS membership.
